Section 2
Definition
In this Act, unless the subject or the context otherwise requires,–
(a) "Compulsory education" means compulsory education for children of the age group specified by the Government of Nepal to be enrolled in schools or other alternative educational institutions to study regularly and complete basic level studies.
(b) "Parent" means a child's father, mother or a person registered as guardian in the school and the term also includes his guardian or guardian.
(c) “Economically disadvantaged” means a person having an annual income below the prescribed limit.
(d) “Basic education” means school education from Class I to Class VIII.
(e) "Prescribed" or "as prescribed" means prescribed or prescribed in the rules made under this Act.
(f) "Private investment school" means a school established or operated with private investment and the term also includes an institutional school in existence at the time of commencement of this Act.
(g) “Free education” means education imparted by a school or educational institution without charging any fee whatsoever from the student or the parents.
(h) "Principal" means the chief executive officer of the school who carries out the management and administrative responsibilities of the school and the term also refers to the principal or any other person exercising executive authority who has the primary responsibility for the management of the school or educational institution.
(i) "Early Child Development and Education" means child development and education for a period of one year focused on the overall development of children, given to children who have completed four years of age before entering Class I.
(j) "Secondary education" means education from Class IX to Class XII or equivalent.
(k) “mother tongue education” means;Na means education given through any mother tongue of the Nepali community spoken in Nepal and the word also refers to multilingual education based on mother tongue.
(l) "School" shall mean a public or private investment school established and operated in accordance with the prevailing law and the term also refers to a community or institutional school which is maintained in accordance with the prevailing law at the time of commencement of this Act.
(D) "Student" means a person who is enrolled in a school and studying and the term also refers to a person who is getting education in non-formal, open, alternative etc. programs.
(l) "Special education" means education given in a special way and through specific means to children who are blind, deaf, autistic, intellectually disabled, hearing impaired, or severely physically handicapped or of a similar nature in a separate group.
(n) "Teacher" means a teacher of a school and that term also includes the Headmaster.
(h) "Educational institution" means a school or an institution providing higher education and the term also includes an institution providing non-formal, alternative or open education.
(h) "Public school" means a school run with investment or subsidy from the Government of Nepal, the provincial government or the local level, and the term also refers to a school run as a community school in accordance with the prevailing law.
(d) “Public Educational Institutional School” means a welfare school established or operated under a public educational institution with a not-for-profit purpose.
